School Groups are always welcome here at Rosedown Plantation SHS. In addition to our tour of Rosedown’s main house, we offer a variety of educational programs that allow students to better learn about rural life in the 19th century.
If you plan to visit Rosedown with your school group and would like to include a program in addition to the house tour, please make your reservation at least 2-3 weeks in advance. Due to recent budget cuts we now only allow one program per school’s visit in addition to a tour of the main house.
Here is a list of programs that we offer:
19th Century Medical Talk/Demonstration
Spinning Wheel Demonstration
Loom Weaving Demonstration
Shaving Horse Demonstration
Slave Tour/Talk
19th Century Children’s Toys Talk/Demonstration
Black Powder Demonstration
Weapons Talk
Basket Weaving
19th Century Clothing Talk
Garden Tour
Rosedown’s Scavenger Hunt

I would like more information on your Scavenger Hunt program. Thanks.
Hi Kathy, thank you for checking out our blog. The scavenger hunt takes students through our gardens and around the grounds in search of items on the plantation. The hunt is titled “In Search of History” and points out historical items, buildings, etc. at Rosedown. There needs to be a chaperon with the students, one chaperon per ten kids, while they are on the hunt. It takes about twenty to thirty minutes for the students to cover the grounds in search of these items. If your school group has, for example, 100 kids and you all would like a house tour and the scavenger hunt, we split the groups. We take half through the house and the other half will do the scavenger hunt. Once the first group comes out of the house they then start their hunt and we bring in the second group into the house.
